Sewing hook and eyes to a front extension?

I need some sewing help!!

I'm creating this item:

and to finish it off it says: "on the inside, sew hooks to right front edge 3/8" (1 cm) from small circles, as shown.

on outside, sew thread eyes to left front extension seam at small circles, as shown."

When I was sewing it, it made sense but the photo is shows is on the opposite side of where I sewed the extension and the overskirt attached to the top is backwards.

I'm trying every way to sew this top so the front looks smooth and cannot notice the hooks.

Is there any way to hide the hook/eye closures or would the only way to connect the two is to place them in the front but you would see them ?

Sounds to me like your diagram is showing the inside of the garment, and you're thinking "from the outside".

Normally, the hook portion is sewn just under the edge of the overlap (as you're looking at the garment from the public side) and the thread bar or the eye of the hook and eye goes on the outside of the underlap.
Take a look at a bra back, and you'll see this style.

Some decorative applications do have exposed hooks and eyes, but they're uncommon.

If you're using the little wire hook and eye sets that come on cards, you might like to know about "skirt hooks" or "trouser hooks", which are more commonly found on ready to wear.
