The Perfect New Year’s Eve Outfit

New Year’s Eve is one of those holidays that gives you a great excuse to dress up and look and feel fabulous. No matter what body type you have there are some outfits that will both flatter and dazzle even the harshest critic. If you’re a dress girl there is plenty for you but if you’re not, no worries, there are still a ton of options for you!

Let’s start by talking about what colors are in right now. This season and for a couple seasons before jewel tones have been trendy in a big way, think darker purples, teals, blues, greens and reds. These colors look great on anyone and are perfect for winter because of the popularity of the darker hues. Not only that but colors such as these can be found in stores from the Gap to Saks Fifth Avenue so you can find this look in a variety of price ranges. Coming to us all the way from the 80’s metallics are also huge this season, both silver and gold, and can be found all over as well. But if you prefer something a little more classic black is always a great option.

Now let’s discuss styles. Many designers have focused on simplifying the cut of the dress and pulling away from flowing creations and leaning towards a sleeker look. Look for a form fitting silk dress that has a scoop or boxed neckline and is mid length. For a foxier look you can look for more of a chiffon dress with a low cut neck and shorter length. You can also look for a high necked and super short (think mini) dress that when paired with a high stiletto will make your legs look great! Also, keep your eyes out for a tight bodice in the chest area with a flowing skirt. Here’s a hint, this last dress looks great on all body types!

To compliment your dress look for accessories as well. This season adorning yourself with big chunky bracelets, earrings, necklaces, rings and embellishment is very trendy, not all together though. This year look for a classic cut dress and then accessories that can be added to the outfit that will really make it pop. If you’re looking for an easier look though, there are many dresses out there that come with embellished beads, Swarovski’s, etc already on the dress. Just remember when it comes to accessorizing your outfit that less is usually more.

Don’t forget that patterned tights are also huge this season so if you live in a snowy place and are planning to wear a dress, consider some tights so you don’t freeze! Think of colors that will compliment your outfit such as any of the above, or even consider white.

If you are looking for a less glamorous outfit there are still many options. When shopping look for a great sleek pant that can be paired with a great pair of heels or heeled boots. Look for this pant in black, grey, or dark khaki. Then porous for a classic silk top in any of the above “in” colors, to spice up your outfit you can go for a top with some detail such as a sleek bow or some dainty ruffles. Silk tops often look best with a deep v cut and can be found with a tied back to make that waist of your look minuscule! When dressing down a bit, accessories are important too so make sure you grab a fantastic pair of earrings to top off your look. These tops also look great with an awesome jean for going out.

Whatever you decide to wear on this notoriously part orientated holiday, wear it with confidence and go out looking for a great time. I guarantee if you feel good about yourself you will have much more fun!

When you say mini, do you mean for a child or for a doll? Either way, there are software companies that specialize in creating clothing patterns for nearly everything, from adults of generous proportions to small dolls. Different patterns, of course; but still.

Wild Ginger did some of them years ago, but I'm sure a search engine can do this for you. They are not cheap, but if you get into it, you can make pretty much whatever you want.

If it's dolls specifically you want, may I suggest there are several good doll maker and doll collector magazines that could not only get you started, but contain advertisements for the software mentioned. Some of them are amazing. Try putting "fashion dolls" into a search engine and see what you get. I'll put one or two links below to stimulate your imagination.

Am I the only one who thinks the garter toss is tacky?

Why do people do this? People are soooo worried about decor, style, ambiance and even etiquette THAN they have their groom hump the air and dirty dance his way (on his hands and knees no less) toward her, go under her skirt and come out with the garter- in his teeth. Why?
